Candle Care
1. The First Burn is Always Important
Before lighting your candle, take a moment to inspect the vessel for any cracks or damage. Safety first!
When you light your scented candle for the very first time, let the wax melt completely to the edges of the jar to allow a full melt pool to form. This step is key to achieving an even burn and preventing "tunnelling"—that annoying hollow ring of unmelted wax that shortens your candle's life.
Soy wax melts at a lower temperature than other types, giving you a longer-lasting burn and a stronger fragrance throw. It's perfectly normal for all the wax to melt, but be careful not to bump the vessel—no one wants a wax spill!
2. Trim Your Wicks!
A quick trim before each burn makes all the difference! Keep your wick at about 5mm long to maintain a clean, steady flame.
You can easily pinch off the burnt part of the wick with your fingers (before lighting, of course!) or use a wick trimmer for precision. This little habit prevents black smoke and keeps your candle looking and burning beautifully.
3. Choose a Safe Place
Candles need a safe spot. Always place yours on a flat, fire-resistant surface, far away from anything flammable—think plants, books, magazines, or fabrics.
Before lighting, double-check that the wax is free from wick trimmings, matches, or any debris.
4. Four Hours Max!
Limit your candle's burn time to four hours or less. Once extinguished, remember that the glass can stay hot—handle with care!
Never use water to put out a candle. It can cause hot wax to splatter or even crack the glass.
If your candle flickers, smokes, or has an unusually high flame, extinguish it right away. Let it cool, trim the wick, and check for drafts before relighting.
5. The Bottom Bit
When only 5mm of wax remains, it’s time to say goodbye. Leaving a small layer of wax ensures the glass doesn’t overheat, reducing the risk of cracks or fire hazards.
6. Bonus!
Don’t toss the jar! Repurpose it as a chic plant pot or a desk organiser—it’s too pretty not to reuse. Plus, he remaining wax could be used in an oil burner to avoid waste!
7. How to Clean your Candle Vessel
Here’s a quick and easy way to clean your candle vessel! First, pop it in the freezer for a few hours—this will cause any leftover wax to harden and chip right off. For any stubborn residue, just wash it with hot soapy water. You can use an old spoon to gently scrape away the wax, leaving your vessel spotless and ready for a new candle or another fun project!
8. Enjoy Your Moment with Care
Candlelit moments should always be safe. Burn your candle within sight, away from drafts, and never leave it unattended. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
Enjoy the glow and if you need a refresher, the safety label on the bottom of the jar has you covered.
